What about the level of
education here? We are just kids not god. It’s hard for us
to tackle them. But we do anyway. Do we get any credit? No,
none whatsoever. Who said life was fair? Ask me! As a
challenge, try solving our math questions, from class VII
onwards. To reach where our parents are today we would
probably have to work and get educated thrice of what our
parents did in their times--a mere 75% was enough to get into
the top college with the course of your choice. But today even
with a 90%+, it will be tough to get into a top college. And to make a living,
we need the desired stamp of a great college, which is
difficult. The core of the problem being that there are not
enough seats in the college to cater to the rising student
population...that makes the situation all the more sad for us
and it gets worse by the year!
Come to think of it...there are
600,000 children who sit for the C.B.S.C Board exams each
year. In the 12th grade alone, between 50,000 and 100,000
would manage to get into a decent college. The results of this
years exams will be out in a couple of days and one
shouldn’t be surprised to know that there has already been
an increase in the number of children suffering from
stress-related diseases along with a number of suicide cases.
Parents often misunderstand these stress- related diseases.
It is not even funny as to how
little our parents know about us. They would usually do things
expecting us to appreciate it but it usually turns out to be
the things that we hate so much. But then again we can’t
hurt their feelings so ... if they think that they are under
pressure they should just ask us. We happen to be pushed from
all ends – school, teachers, parents, tutors and the list
goes on. The whole world wants us to do well but they fail to
realize that there is a great difference between the
"want" and actually achieving it. Our education
system is to be blamed partly due to under-qualified teachers
and backward courses for which we lack something in all
fields. We are not updated enough. And then if we do badly we
are always the one to blame in this country. They all follow a
very straight rule “teachers can never be wrong.” Going by
those lines, one can surly imagine what we go through.
Our culture is totally redefined
today! And guess who’s blamed for it! Why? In India, why do
families expect so much from us? Why are they so dependent on
us? OK...it’s understandable that they want us to have the
right values. But in order to get those values why do we have
to follow our life on a line that they set? Why can’t they
just except us as grown-ups and stop bothering us. Why can’t
our point of view ever be listened to seriously? And why are
we always “just kids?”
Nike, Reebok, Adidas -- why are
those brand names given so much importance? Why are the people
in India so brand-conscious? Because they believe in what they
wear and how they conduct themselves among others. Why are we
so showy? Where is the real us? Everything just gets drowned
if one walks into school with a local brand of shoes and that
guy is a goner. The entire meaning of our school system is now
inexplicable. We have a common school color; a school uniform.
But still it quite does not seem to fulfill its purposes.
Kids are
no longer just kids! All these things ultimately add up and
remember it’s the little things that lead to the big things.
These are the reasons as to why we have a "BMW
case." A
young college going student and home for a so-called vacation.
Driving drunk, running over eight persons...and ruining more
than 10 families just because he wanted to have a good time.
All one can do today is to water and nurture this garden well
so that there are no weeds and these carefree green years stay
ever green all our life. And the attitude that "the grass
is greener on the other side " be changed to "the
grass is green!"
